It’s quite interesting that Gocycle is now joining the trend of compact longtail cargo bikes, planned for 2024.

Gocycle is known for their innovative approach to electric folding bikes, and it seems they are continuing this line with a design that deviates from the traditional longtails. Especially the fact that this bike is foldable sparks the imagination.

This is not something you often see with cargo bikes, and it certainly raises questions about the strength of the frame. But honestly, we are quite curious to see how this will play out in practice. And where it fits, in the folding bike category or rather longtails.

The concept of the Family Cargo bike fits perfectly within Gocycle’s OneDesignDNAยฎ philosophy, which they are now expanding into an entirely new category. The idea of offering a lightweight, seamless design bike that can serve both families and transporting pets or goods sounds promising.

The fact that Richard Thorpe, the founder of Gocycle, was previously an engineer at McLaren, adds a certain flair to the whole thing. You could say that the innovations we’re used to from their folding bikes are now being applied in the world of cargo e-bikes.

For example, the CXI version seems to exceed all expectations with a weight of only 22.7 kg, making it significantly lighter than many of its competitors. This not only makes it easier to maneuver in the city but also easier to store.

The idea of being able to fold a longtail and carry it under your arm is quite revolutionary. With a carrying capacity of about 218 kg and the promise of a range of up to 80 km on a single charge, this bike seems both functional and innovative.

The technical specifications are also impressive: from the 500W motor (250W for the European version) to the quickly removable 375 Wh battery. Also, the hydraulic disc brakes, Schwalbe Moto X tires, and the daytime running lights are details that show careful consideration has been given to the practical usability of this bike.

It’s clear that Gocycle is taking a new direction with the Family Cargo bike, and while there are some questions about how the frame will hold up under heavy loads, the overall curiosity is high. Time will tell how this bike performs in real-world tests, but the prospects are certainly interesting. It promises to be an intriguing addition to Gocycle’s lineup, and we look forward to the official launch next year.
