At the Velofollies 2024 trade fair, a particular brand caught my attention: GasGas, known for their robust mopeds, has entered the electric bike market.

Their booth, a melting pot of innovation and motor heritage, showcased the Moto 2 e-bike, a model that blurs the lines between e-bikes and electric scooters.

Moped-like, beautiful, and powerful

The Moto 2 stands out immediately due to its unique design. With a robust steel frame and a noticeably long, comfortable saddle, this e-bike offers an inviting seat for a diverse range of users. GasGas has clearly drawn from their rich motor history, which is evident in the aesthetics of this bike. The thick 20-inch tires give it a rugged appearance and promise stability and comfort on various terrains.

The technical specifications of the Moto 2 are impressive. Powered by a powerful Bafang H550 motor of 750W and a torque of 70Nm, this e-bike promises impressive acceleration.

For the European market, everything is limited to 25 km/h and 250 Watts. For the US, you have a throttle and can ride up to 45 km/h. Who knows, there might be a speed pedelec variant in the future.

The integration of a 672Wh battery ensures that the rider can cover long distances without worrying about a drained battery. This combination makes the Moto 2 suitable not only for city commuting but also for adventurous rides off the beaten pathโ€‹โ€‹.

Strong GAS GAS build quality

Also noteworthy is the connectivity of the Moto 2. With an LED display that supports Bluetooth connectivity, riders can easily pair their smartphone to track navigation or ride data. This modern feature adds an extra dimension to the riding experience, blending technology and tradition seamlesslyโ€‹โ€‹.

The brakes of the Moto 2, Tektro Gemini SL hydraulic disc brakes with 4 pistons, provide powerful and reliable braking performance, essential for safety in both urban environments and rough terrain. Paired with the Microshift 7-speed gears, the Moto 2 offers a riding experience that is both smooth and responsive, suitable for a wide range of riding styles and preferencesโ€‹โ€‹.

Build quality and performance are central

(Temporary) No Suspension

There is no form of suspension, something I saw with the APE RYDER. The powerful Bafang motor is limited to 250 watts and 25 kilometers per hour, but provides very good acceleration. Because the motor is in the rear wheel and provides direct drive, you accelerate faster than with other electric bikes.

The slick moto tires also indicate that this street bike is mainly intended for the road, and apparently also the beach. We haven’t tested the Moto2 yet. Once tested, you can find the results in the review, the road test, and our list of the best e-fatbikes, to see where this GASGAS Electric fatbike (or Beach Cruiser) ranks.

For now, we still call them ped-scooters or StreEtbikes, in this video, GasGas refers to them as Cruiser bikes or ‘urban cruisers’, as an alternative to the beach cruisers.

This seems to indicate that GasGas is achieving its goal: fast and cool. Safety is also ensured. The Tektro brakes are of exceptionally high quality, which is necessary for safe braking. The design of the brakes on the BMX handlebars is convenient and easy to grip, giving you quick control.
