Bosch, a leading brand in the eBike industry, has a long history of innovation and quality. Choosing the right eBike motor is crucial for the riding experience, and this article aims to provide an in-depth overview of the various Bosch eBike motor models, including the newest and lightest Performance Line SX.

Bosch eBike Motor Models

Active Line

The Active Line is a simple model that offers low torque and is especially efficient. It is ideal for urban environments and for those who prefer a calm, flat ride. It is designed for optimal efficiency and minimal noise and vibration production.

With a torque of 40 Nm, it provides gentle acceleration and offers up to 250% support for easy cycling. Ideal for simple rides, or for example, for children, teenagers, or even seniors who are just learning to ride with an electric bike.

The differences between Bosch CX and Bosch SX

Active Line Plus

The Active Line Plus is simply a bit more powerful. It is suitable for longer rides and offers more power and better performance. With a torque of 50 Nm, it provides some acceleration and offers up to 270% support. It is ideal for Active Line users who also encounter mountains or hills on their route.

Performance Line

The Performance Line is designed for versatile use, from city rides to bike routes and hills. We mainly see them used on electric city bikes with a mid-drive motor (from Bosch). With a torque of 65 Nm, it provides powerful acceleration and offers up to 300% support for versatile use. This is Bosch’s most average motor and ideal for those who don’t need a powerful 85 Nm CX.

Performance Line Speed

The Performance Line Speed is often used on speed pedelecs and offers powerful support up to 45 km/h. With a torque of 85 Nm, it provides powerful acceleration and offers up to 340% support for fast commuting.

Powerful Bosch CX Line

Performance Line CX

The Performance Line CX is the most powerful motor from Bosch. There are several versions, with minimal differences mostly related to software. They are designed for cargo and eMountain bikes, providing a dynamic riding experience with ample traction and powerful acceleration.
It features special riding modes for sport and eMTB, intelligent support, and a hill hold function for added control. Also very convenient for large and heavy bikes like a longtail or cargo bike.

Performance Cargo Line CX

The Cargo Line is specifically designed for cargoย bikes, offering powerful support even when carrying heavy loads. With a torque of 85 Nm, it provides powerful acceleration with heavy loads and offers up to 400% support for heavy cargo.

Bosch e-motor for eMTB

Performance Line CX Race Limited Edition

The Performance Line CX Race Limited Edition is designed for eMTB racing and offers powerful, direct support with an exclusive Race mode and extended boost. With a torque of 85 Nm, it provides powerful acceleration and features a lightweight design for improved handling and maximum performance.

Performance Line SX

The Performance Line SX is the newest, lightest, and most compact drive unit from Bosch eBike Systems. It is designed for maximum enjoyment and is ideal for sporty cycling. With a torque of 55 Nm, it provides rapid acceleration and offers up to 340% support for sporty cycling.
This new model aims to compete with other lightweight electric motors such as the Fazua 60. The current trend in sporty electric bikes is to limit weight, and a good compact motor can help achieve that. Battery capacity is also limited in this regard.

Choosing the Right Bosch eBike Motor

When choosing an eBike motor, factors such as the type of cycling (urban commuting, long-distance touring, cargo hauling, mountain biking, etc.), the cyclist’s fitness level, and the terrain should be taken into consideration. Each Bosch motor fits into these considerations.
