At the recent Velofollies fair in Kortrijk Expo, the Belgian bicycle brand Swyff showed its best side. With a renewed range, including a new longtail and cargo bike, all made in Belgium, Swyff has decided to start strong in 2024.
Originally focusing mainly on compact and electric folding bikes, Swyff has significantly expanded its offering. This year, they introduced not only a longtail bike with a mid-motor but also a cargo bike.
New Swyff e-bikes
What immediately stands out at the Swyff stand at Velofollies is the clear focus on innovation and quality. Swyff has paid a lot of attention to detail, from the choice of mid-motor to the use of a maintenance-friendly belt drive and advanced folding systems.
Also convenient is the low step-through of their foldable mid-motor bikes. These models feature suspension, a strong frame, and a good folding system. In addition, the saddle and handlebars are adjustable, providing extra comfort while cycling.
As a Belgian brand, Swyff also pays attention to details that come in handy in our rainy country. For example, their mudguards have an extra cap to catch splashes from puddles. A feature that other brands often overlook but is certainly appreciated by cyclists who want to stay dry.
Longtail Bike with Mid-Motor
One of the highlights in Swyff’s new lineup is the longtail bike with a mid-motor. Not a premium longtail, but rather a good price/quality option for more price-conscious buyers.
Because they produce locally and have no unnecessary intermediaries, they can offer their bikes at very reasonable prices. Nowhere else did we find a longtail with a mid-motor for under โฌ 3000.
This bike combines the practical utility of a longtail bike with the power and efficiency of a mid-motor. Suitable for all types of routes, including those with steep inclines.
The design is reminiscent of the earlier Radwagons, but Swyff has elevated this concept to a higher level by adding a Bafang mid-motor, something that the Radwagon did not have.
Versatile Electric Cargo Bike
In addition to the longtail bike, Swyff has also introduced a cargo bike with cargo space.
The minimalist design, somewhat like the eBullitt cargo bikes, provides a light frame and few unnecessary extras. The cargo space extends below the handlebars, ensuring efficient storage.
Although the bike does not have an electric display on the handlebars, it uses a powerful rear-wheel motor. This motor is capable of pushing you forward, but it may perform less effectively under very heavy weights. This is something we will need to test during a test ride.
Another notable feature of the Swyff cargo bike is the cable-based steering mechanism. This provides very responsive and precise control. The bike seems very maneuverable, light, and enjoyable to ride.
However, we still have questions about the power of the electric components, carrying heavy weights, and the lack of any form of suspension. Hopefully, we can answer these questions during a review or test ride.
Swyff on Customer Contact and After Sales
Swyff distinguishes itself not only through its innovative products but also through its focus on customer contact and after-sales service. The brand aims to stay close to its customers and provides excellent support after purchase.
With their presence at Velofollies, the Belgian brand has shown that they are a key player in the Belgian market for electric folding bikes. In 2024, they plan to expand this to the cargo bike market, with their first longtail and cargo bike as evidence.
We will be reviewing and testing these Swyff bikes. Stay informed through our newsletter.
