Ridley began in 1997, founded by Jochim Aerts who had been producing frames for Belgian bicycle companies since 1990. Ridley quickly grew into a prominent name in the cycling world, thanks in part to their strong involvement with professional cycling teams and their innovative bike designs.

In 2002, Mario De Clercq became the first cyclocross world champion on a Ridley bike, bringing the brand further recognition. Ridley continued to grow and expand, and in 2017 they acquired the Eddy Merckx brand, further strengthening their market position.
